Talented Denby Dale rider Jack Price won the coveted Bradford Motor Club’s annual Timperley Cup Trial in Yarnbury.

Price, fresh from training in Spain with world champion Toni Bou, Adam Raga and Albert Cabestany, rode the first lap of 20 sections with just one penalty on his Gas Gas bike.

His teammate, Dan Thorpe, was his closest rival, but slipped up at the waterfall section costing himself a penalty.

Both riders lost points on lap two, Price being caught out in section 11 before the pressure got to Thorpe in section 18.

However, it was Price’s day, winning the tiebreaker, having rode furthest distance with penalty.

Organisers also marked an optional route for non-championship contenders, which was won overall by Huddersfield’s 14-year-old William Tolson, who finished a remarkable 29 penalties ahead of his father Chris Tolson. Bradford’s Kieran Child grabbed second place ahead of Falcon’s Ty Yamaha rider Ian Haigh.

Huddersfield Falcon Motor Cycle Club like to recruit the trials riders at a young age.

Falcon member, and press officer, Simon Tyas rides in the Inter class and has now introduced his two sons Harry and Ben to the sport.

Ten-year-old Ben rides at present for fun on an electric powered Oset machine, but did ride in two trials last year to get into competition.

Ben attends Emley First School as does his seven-year-old brother Harry.

Harry also has an Oset machine and it is only a matter of time before both boys compete on a regular basis.

That will entail further duties for grandfather Bob Tyas – beyond organising trials.

On Saturday round one of the British Youth Trials Championship will be staged at Howden Clough, Batley (10.30am).

On Sunday Huddersfield Falcon MCC hold round two of their club trial series at Rockingstones Quarry, Scammonden (11am).
