Huddersfield’s Daniel Lloyd heads to the world famous circuit of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium this weekend.

The Avon Tyres British GT Championship makes its annual visit to the iconic Belgian track for round five of the British GT championship.

The series reconvenes at the fast and flowing Belgium circuit after a six-week break, and a field of around 40 cars is expected to line-up against Lloyd and his Oman Racing Team partner Ahmad Al Harthy as they make their return in the Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3.

With a comfortable lead in the Silver Cup class, Lloyd and Al Harthy currently lie fifth in the overall championship standings, a mere three points behind the fourth spot.

Lloyd is determined to carry his excellent performance from the Rockingham and Silverstone rounds forward into tomorrow’s two-hour race.

“We had a positive test here at the end of June and showed promising race pace so hopefully we’ll get the chance to covert this into a decent result this weekend and move up in the championship standings;” said Lloyd.

As well as being the only overseas circuit on the British GT calendar, Spa also boasts the longest layout with a lap time of around two minutes 20 seconds and is renowned for its fickle weather conditions.

With Lloyd and Al Harthy classed as Silver Cup drivers, the added 70kg of weight on board the Vantage will certainly add an extra dimension to the challenge that awaits the Oman Racing Team duo.

“It feels like an age since we were last out in the championship, so I’m really looking forward to the weekend and continuing our strong form;” Lloyd added.

“It’s going to be tough with the extra weight on board, but the nature of the track should suit the Aston well.

“It’s a fantastic circuit to race on, and with the Total 24 hours of Spa coming up later in the month it’s also the perfect opportunity to get more valuable track time under our belts.”

The race gets underway at 12.15 local time (11.15am UK time) and Channel 4 will feature race highlights from 7am on Saturday, July 18, with Motors TV broadcasting its highlights show later that day from 6.25pm.
