High Flatts racer James Pickford is looking forward to a exciting 2014.

And anything will be better than last season for the 20-year-old, who missed the 2013 campaign after having to have surgery on a serious knee ligament injury.

But the break from track action has brought a new plan of action to compete in the Superstock 600 series of the British Superbikes Championship next season – while also taking in meetings in the Thundersport calendar.

Pickford, in his third year of an apprenticeship with Cummins Engineering, will be racing a Kawasaki ZX6r next year and is hoping to be able to announce a tie-up with a team in the near future.

“It will be a little bit ‘in at the deep end’ when we go to Brands Hatch for the first British Superbikes meeting in April,” said James’ dad Ian.

“James has needed a good three months to recover after the knee operation, but we have been out to Spain testing and the times have been good, so we are looking forward to some good results!”

That testing has taken in the track at Almeria and, after the festive period, the Pickfords are looking to test again at Cartagena.

“The week testing at the Almeria race circuit in southern Spain was very successful,” added James.

“So I am looking forward to returning to Spain for another pre-season test at the Cartagena race circuit in February.

“It should be perfect preparation for the start of the racing season in March and my knee is holding up well, so I am looking forward to the start of the season.”
