BARCELONA proved a happier hunting ground for Fenay Bridge racer Kyle Smith in the latest round of the 2013 Moto2 series.
At the Circuit de Catalunya, Smith managed 17th place, despite finishing with a ripped rear tyre.
For the 21-year-old, who has lived in Spain since he was seven, the Barcelona track is a familiar one and it served up one of the most promising results of his rookie season with the Blusens Avintia Honda team.
He ended qualifying in 18th place, ahead of teammate and former champion Tony Elias, and was able to make improvement going into the race.
“Qualifying was good even though a fall hampered getting a faster lap,” said Smith. “I felt I could go comfortably faster, but in the race the tyre situation lost us time, but everyone happy with his result.”
