HUDDERSFIELD’S rising motor racing star Daniel Lloyd proved he is more than ready for the intense challenge of the 2013 Porsche Carrera Cup GB season after conquering FIA Formula One World Championship ace Mark Webber’s fifth annual ‘Get Race Fit’ weekend.

The 20-year-old, who embarks on his second season as the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar this year with Team Parker Racing, was one of a select number of the best young drivers from right across the British motorsport spectrum to be granted a place on the two-day experience.

Held at the Porsche Human Performance Centre, based at Silverstone, Lloyd and his fellow racers were put through their paces with a range of training disciplines which focused on areas such as strength and conditioning and flexibility.

While impressing throughout the event, Lloyd truly excelled with one of the toughest challenges, the Cardio-Wall, which tests hand-eye co-ordination, physical endurance, reaction time, flexibility and strength in one intense work-out.

Achieving the best score by out-performing all of his fellow competitors, which included GP2 Series race winner James Calado and MotoGP graduate Bradley Smith, the Porsche driver was thrilled to have delivered such a strong account of himself on his second visit to Webber’s prestigious event.

“It was great to be involved in Get Race Fit again and fantastic to have the chance to meet Mark (Webber) and to gain some mega advice from him”, said Lloyd.

“He’s one of the fittest and most successful drivers in Formula One, so to benefit from all of his knowledge and experience was invaluable and it was more in depth this year.

“The competition was tough, so it was even more satisfying to win the Cardio-Wall.

“My fitness is better than ever going into the new season so I’m really pleased about that and sure it’ll pay dividends as the championship progresses.”

Lloyd, who is still seeking additional backers for the 2013 season, will embark on his pre-season testing programme ahead of the opening two rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship to be held at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent on March 30/31.
