Huddersfield’s Ginetta G50 champion Mark Davies joins TCR for GT Supercup

REIGNING Ginetta GT Supercup G50 Class champion Mark Davies has signed a deal to race for leading squad Total Control Racing in 2013.

The Huddersfield racer won the title with Grantham-based Richardson Racing last year, but will look to mount a challenge for the G55 Class title in his first full season in the top tier of the championship with TCR.

Having steered Carl Breeze to an emotional championship triumph in the Ginetta GT Supercup last year, Wednesbury-based TCR is aiming to remain on top and by agreeing terms with Davies they believe their squad has the services of one of the quickest drivers in the series.

The 31-year-old Davies said: “Ever since back in the days when I raced in Renault Clios, TCR was always one of the top teams and it has always been my ambition to drive for them.

“I’ve always been impressed by the way the team operates, it’s one of the best organised in the paddock and TCR’s cars are always fast without any shadow of a doubt.

“We had a great year last year, but I had to take this opportunity. I want to go out and win the title and win as many races as I can but, like Carl (Breeze) showed last year, you have to be consistent.

“I’m really looking forward to the new season, I can’t wait to get out in the car and start working with all the guys at TCR.”

Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent will host the opening event of the 2013 Ginetta GT Supercup on Easter weekend, March 30-31, with the season concluding back at Brands Hatch – on the full Grand Prix Circuit – on October 12-13.

“Mark’s a fantastic driver to have in the team, we’re delighted he’s joined us”, said Lee Brookes, TCR team principal.

“He’s won the Ginetta Challenge in the G20 car and the G40 car, last year he won in the G50, so we want to try and win the G55 with him.

“He’s a quality driver, very quick as he proved at the end of last season with his first outing in a G55. He’ll definitely be fighting for the title.”
