Mirfield racer Ryan Strafford claimed a podium place as the new 2015 Thundersport series got under way at Brands Hatch.

Strafford, the Thundersport GB 2014 Streetfighter champion, has moved up a class to race in the Golden Era Superbikes for 2015.

Riding a 1000cc Honda RC-51 V-twin machine he finished fourth in the opening two races of the first round of the series the Kent circuit – but it was third time lucky as he claimed third place in the final race for his podium place.

“The racing was very close and I was pushed all the way,” said Strafford.

“But I’m over the moon for the whole team and our sponsors.

“I’ve worked the team really hard this weekend and there is no better way to repay them than by coming home with some silverware.

“I’m definitely feeling more confident going into the next round at Donington now!”

The Golden Era Superbike series is contested between four-cylinder and twin-cylinder machines manufactured upto the year 2000 and Strafford’s RS Racing Team have had to work hard on their new bike.

Team manager Chris Strafford explained: “It’s a new bike to the team and we have no base settings to work from, so we have to rely on Ryan’s feedback from any changes we make.”

“The important thing is Ryan was quicker in each race, which means the changes we were making were taking us in the right direction.

“We have some work to do between now and the next round in April to fix some weak points on the bike”.
