Mirfield racer Ryan Strafford has enjoyed a superb season in Thundersport GB bike racing – winning one title and coming within a whisker of a second.

Stafford is the proud holder of the Streetfighter Class B championship title, and he almost added the Streetfighter Extreme crown.

Over nine rounds of competition at tracks such as Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Snetterton, Cadwell Park and Oulton Park, Stafford put himself firmly in the frame for honours.

The championship races are run together and Stafford on his modified KTM Superduke 990 went into the final round at Mallory Park with a 64 point lead in Class B and a 19 point lead in Extreme – the latter being open to all machines up to the maximum BHP limit of 150BHP, hence no mean feat to be runner-up.

Strafford had no problems in the Class B race winning the title with 755 points and 74 clear of his nearest rival, but faced a big challenge from Martin Stanier on a Class A bike in the Extreme in a winner takes all situation and the Mirfield racer was edged out by five points.

However, his record makes impressive reading with 25 Class B race wins out of a total of 34 races, of which five were outright race wins in the Extreme section, with 33 podiums, four outright pole positions, seven class pole positions and seven new lap records in class.

Strafford’s bike is hybrid from a KTM Superduke 990 ‘Black’. The frame, wheels and suspension were from the KTM, but the engine was taken from a Triumph Daytona 675 and the tank is a highly modified Harley Davidson unit and the seat is an after market HD flat tracker seat – the paintwork was completed by Les at Emley Refinisher.

Strafford‘s sponsors have been KDC Contractors Ltd, Access Drilling, Koval Racing in the USA and Held Race Clothing, plus Ian Boldy Photography.
