DANIEL LLOYD produced his best performance of the season to win the final round of the 2011 Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup at Hockenheim.
It was the Huddersfield racer’s second victory of the season and the 19-year-old delivered a determined drive seeing off the challenge of recently crowned champion Mateusz Lisowski, Dennis Trebing and Ola Nilsson.
Lloyd managed to pull out a gap of half a second over the final two laps to take a famous win, his fourth podium of year.
The win also means that in the final championship classification, Lloyd ended his first season of European competition in third position.
“That was the best race I’ve ever had”, said Lloyd.
“To beat the champion at the last round is just perfect, I prefer to have won the race and finished third in the championship than finish second in the race and take second in the points.
“The race win was much more important to me. It would have been great to end the season second in the championship, don’t get me wrong, but this win is brilliant.
“We came into the weekend hoping to end the year on a high and we’ve done that, I’m over the moon and so grateful to everyone who has made this season possible – my dad Neil, our fantastic sponsors, especially my main sponsor Andy Goddard at TNT Post, and my manager Tim Sugden.
“Thanks as well to the guys at Volkswagen Motorsport, it’s been a great year with some absolutely amazing racing.”
