Motorsport: Jack Price races to top of British Trials Championship leaderboard

DENBY DALE rider Jack Price has a national title in his sights.

DENBY DALE rider Jack Price has a national title in his sights.

The 14-year-old heads the ACU Luscombe Suzuki Leeds sponsored British Youth Trials Championship following a convincing victory in the penultimate round at remote Longframlington.

The tough course suited the attacking style of the schoolboy who beat Welsh champion Iwan Roberts by 16 penalties.

Price now has over two months to hone his skills to beat Roberts in the final round in Derbyshire.

Roberts’ chances were not helped by the fact that he had a thumb operation in Bangor Hospital before the event after catching and injuring his hand riding in a meeting in Wales the week before.

The subsequent eleventh hour operation did take the shine off Roberts and it will be a different Welsh Dragon that arrives at Holloway in October.

Price is now on his way to contest the FIM World Youth Championships in Germany and Czechslovakia where his skills will be tested to the full.

Huddersfield Falcon members Matt Whelan, Ben Horner and William Tolson all scored championship points at Longframlington.

Tolson ended his championship year with 10th place in the standings after contesting five of the six championship events.
