HUDDERSFIELD’S Tom Sykes has adopted a carefree attitude ahead of round four of the World Superbikes – despite once again heading into the unknown in Assen this weekend.
The 23-year-old hasn’t stopped since picking up 15 points three weeks ago in Valencia – jetting into Milan before spending two days testing at Monza.
Sykes – who finished seventh and 10th in Southern Spain – was fifth fastest at the North Italian circuit and one of only five riders to duck under the 1.46-minute mark with Yamaha WSB teammate Ben Spies setting the pace, closely followed by championship leader Noriyuki Haga.
Like most of the tracks this season, World Superbike debutant Sykes has never lined up at Assen.
But he insists he is ready to handle any surprises the Dutch circuit can throw his way.
“There is a first time for everything – I went to Qatar not knowing what to expect but everything went fine – and I expect Assen to be similar,” said Sykes, eighth in the standings with 47 points.
“There isn’t much to worry about anymore. I have always wanted to ride there so it is great that I am finally getting the chance and hopefully I can have an enjoyable race.”
