SCAMMONDEN racer Daniel Lloyd made a huge impression on the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship in the opening event of the 2012 season at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit.

The 20-year-old made the most of a front row start in round two of the weekend by taking an outstanding second place finish.

It was a real bonus for Lloyd, making his debut in the competition, who had seemed on course for a podium challenge in round one, until a puncture wrecked his hopes and led to a spin and hefty contact with the barriers at Paddock Hill Bend.

But Lloyd bounced back tremendously in round two where he finished just 1.2 seconds shy of the win.

“I was gutted with what happened in the first round,” said Lloyd.

“You never want something like that to happen, but to happen in my first Porsche race was horrible.

“But to come back and get second place in race two was the perfect response – absolutely awesome.

“It’s still all a massive learning curve for me and I think a 34 lap race is the longest I’ve ever done.

“It’s especially tough on a short track like the Indy Circuit – it’s tough on your mind and tough physically too but everything went well in the end.

“To be on the podium on my first weekend is fantastic.”

There are now just two weeks to wait until the third and fourth rounds of the 2012 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship take place at Donington Park National Circuit in Leicestershire – the home event for Team Parker Racing – over the weekend April 14-15.
