There was some end-of-year joy for Simon Tyas with a fine show in the Huddersfield Falcon MCC’s final club championship trial of 2013.

Cophurst Moor, near Holmfirth, was the venue as the club wrapped up their club championship series with 43 riders taking on a course marked out by Richard Beever and Bob Tyas – Simon’s father.

On the championship route Simon showed he is getting used to four-stroke power on his new Repsol Honda running out a clear winner.

And in doing so he laid some demons to rest following a poor performance from the previous weekend – his single point incurred came on his second lap under the watchful gaze of his father!

On the 50/50 route Ian Haigh showed his class and experience to record a clear win over Ian Blackburn and Chris Tolson.

Haigh’s winning total of three was six clear of both Blackburn and Tolson, with Blackburn getting the runner-up position on the tie-break ruling.

On the easy course things couldn’t have been any closer with a three-way tie-break to decide the winner.

Oliver Fortune, Chris Haigh on his Velocette and Richard Dodson all completed the trial for a loss of five marks.

Section seven was to prove decisive, Fortune totalled four after a careless three on his first lap, Haigh and Dodson both totalled two, with best performance on the section going to Andy Schofield.

Fortune’s other loss went on the final section, where Haigh stayed feet up.

So at the end of the day Fortune got the nod, but Haigh must be ruing a loss of concentration on section one on his very first lap when he lost his way in the many flags and with it two very costly marks.

Best youth was Aaron Goodlad on ten marks, section seven proving not to his liking, costing him six of his final total.

The club’s final event of the year is the annual Christmas team-trial which will take place on the Horn Hill on December 29 where entries are required prior to the day to allocate riders to teams.
