Huddersfield Falcons had the weather on their side when sunshine bathed the compact Deanhead venue for the third round of the club’s championship series.

A field of 53 riders turned out to test their skills against the course Bob Tyas had plotted at Barkisland.

There were nine testing sections to be ridden over four laps and , while grip can be hard to find at Deanhead, with relatively dry conditions grip was at a premium which ensured the winning totals were low.

On the Championship Route it was all about one man, former professional rider, Tony Scarlett.

Although only riding for fun these days, Scarlett showed he’s lost none of his former skills turning in a winning total of just one single mark.

His one mark went on the rock strewn climb of section six where best youth Will Tolson posted best performance with a faultless score card.

Runner-up was Barnsley’s Neil Savage, who got off to the worst start possible when his Gas Gas jumped out of gear on the very first section.

Simon Tyas rounded out the top three, although any chance of finishing higher went on the steep loose turns of section five where he totalled a costly nine.

The Clubman A riders had a harder proposition with five sections to be ridden as hard route options.

Best performances went to Ian Blackburn and Simon Slater – the win going to Blackburn after a tie-break.

Falcons now take a month break before their next event on April 26.
