All eyes will be on Lindley netball ace Lydia Walker this weekend as Huddersfield makes its debut in the sport’s international sphere.

England will stage warm-up fixtures ahead of the World Cup next month and Lydia, 19, is in the under-19s squad.

Two games will take place at Huddersfield University on Saturday with the England senior squad taking on an England Select side at 2pm.

Following the match, England U19s will play an England Development side at 4pm.

Yorkshire Superleague side Yorkshire Jets will have players featuring in both of games with Natalie Haythornthwaite and Sally Butters set to be part of the England Select side taking on head coach Tracey Neville’s England side.

The match is a key part of the preparations for the Netball World Cup which takes place in Sydney in August.

Lydia and Yorkshire Jets teammate Jess Shaw are also set to be part of the action playing for England U19s. They will also travel to Australia this summer for a series of games in Melbourne.

England head coach Tracey Neville said: “The England on the road fixtures provide an essential opportunity for the squad to experience the type of conditions they will be facing at the World Cup in Australia.

“I know just how passionate the fans in Yorkshire are. We are delighted to take a World Cup warm-up fixture to the region and can’t wait to give our supporters a glimpse of what they can expect from us in August.”

Yorkshire Jets chairman Mariana Pexton added: “We are excited to be able to bring international netball to Huddersfield for the first time giving fans the opportunity to see the stars who will be playing at the World Cup this summer before they travel to Australia and giving budding young netballers the inspiration to keep developing their skills.

“Having four Yorkshire Jets stars involved in the games is a particular bonus and we are proud of everything they have achieved, particularly Lydia Walker who will once again show the progress she has made on court in front of a home crowd who I know will cheer her on.”

Lydia proved a big hit when she returned to her old school, Lindley Juniors, on Monday.
