Thongsbridge Tennis Club’s Orla Cooper and Oliver Vesely were impressive in the Yorkshire Winter County Tour event, with the latter claiming a winner’s medal.

Orla and Oliver took part in the 12U event at the John Charles Centre for Sport, and both made finals.

Vesely, who was the No1 seed for the tournament, started his campaign against highly-rated Alexander Moore from Bolton Arena.

He took the game 4-2 1-4 (10-7) to set up a semi-final clash with Damian Crawford, who he beat 4-1 4-1 to progress to the final.

Ilkley’s Thomas Horsley was his final opponent, and Oliver showed no signs of nerves, defeating his opponent 4-1 4-0 to claim the winner’s medal.

Like Vesely, Cooper had a similarly tough match in her first-round outing, beating Molly O’Donaghue 5-4 2-4 (10-3). She eased past Charlotte Huby 4-2 4-1 in the semi-finals, before falling at the last hurdle against No1 seed Jayanne Palma from Heaton Tennis Club, losing 1-4 1-4.

Jacob Chadwick completed a succesful return to competitive tennis after breaking an arm in October.

Chadwick competed in the WCT 10U event in Hull, and suffered from rustiness in his first game, losing 4-0 5-3 to local talent Tom Jacobs.

His form improved throughout the day though, and he beat Robert Smith 5-4 5-3 in his next game, and finished with a 4-0 4-1 win over Jack Newton in the consolation draw final.

Thongsbridge hosted a Division VII matchplay.

Emily Young had a splendid day, beating Matilda Sreeves 4-2 4-2 and Caitlyn Owens 5-3 1-4 (10-5) despite having been 3-0 down in both sets.
