Around 400 Kirklees youngsters will take part tomorrow in the Kirklees cross country finals at Leeds Road Playing Fields.

From 4pm until 6pm, races in six age groups will be held, with the top five teams in each category – and the top two individuals – going through to the West Yorkshire Level 3 finals at Leeds Met in March next year.

Over 1,600 children have already taken part in 10 preliminary cross country events across Kirklees to qualify for these finals.

Twenty nine schools have teams of five in the event, with the top four counting towards the team score.

Individuals who have performed well at the pre-qualifiers are also involved tomorrow, even if their school teams have not progressed.

Schools teams taking part tomorrow are Meltham CE, Netherthong, Meltham Moor, Honley, Wooldale, St Patricks-Birkby, Linthwaite Clough, Lindley, Christchurch, Crossley Fields, Norristhorpe, Whitechapel, Heaton Avenue, Scholes (Cleckheaton), Hartshead, Roberttown, Littletown, Bywell, St Patricks Birstall, St Paulinus, St Josephs Dewsbury, St Saviours, Skelmanthorpe, South Crosland, Scissett Middle, Newsome, Rowley Lane, Dalton, Kirkburton Middle.

Individuals are also running from Brockholes, Holmfirth, Huddersfield Grammar, Scapegoat Hill, Marsden, Moorlands, Linthwaite Ardron, Wilberlee, Headfield, Thornhill, Batley Parish.
