Woodfield Park ‘A’ currently head the Division I table, but Wilshaw Ash and Kingsmith ‘A’ are keeping up the pressure on the leaders in the Huddersfield Table Tennis League.

Marsh ‘A’ continued their successful season with a fine 8 2 victory over Wilshaw Beech. Ian Tweedale (3), Tony Stead (2) and Bob Sanderson (2) for Marsh with Ken Ward securing the two sets for Wilshaw.

Scissett WMC ‘A’, Wilshaw Ash, Woodfield Park ‘A’ and Kingsmith ‘A’ also secured victories during last week’s round of matches.

Division 2 leaders Wilshaw Damson maintained their unbeaten record with a comfortable 8-2 victory over Kingsmith ‘E’ with some excellent quality table tennis from both teams. Nathan Spencer and Stefan Arak had 3 wins each and the doubles, with Haydn Huston chipping in with the additional set.

It appears to be very tight at the top of Division III, with any one of four teams capable of finishing as champions.

Two of the teams, Deighton ‘F’ and Wilshaw Elm, could not be separated in a 5-5 draw. Cameron Sandhu and Jonathan Heslop had two wins each for Deighton with Barry Lockwood (2) John Vaughan (2) and Steve Cook (1) responding for Wilshaw.

John Vaughan had a fine victory over the promising Heslop who had gained maximum wins in a Division II fixture the previous week.

The other two teams challenging for the top spot also shared the points, with Clive Standen winning his 3 sets for Scissett WMC ‘B’ against Deighton ‘E’.

After just missing out on promotion last season, it would be a fitting farewell for John Vaughan if his Wilshaw team were to gain promotion.

Vaughan has been a stalwart of the league and committee for a number of years and he is shortly due to relocate to the Midlands.

Concorde and FDL Cup quarter-finals are scheduled for the beginning of March and for teams who are not taking part, this period provides an opportunity to complete outstanding league matches.
