Racketlon is classed as one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, and Huddersfield is home to the nation’s two best young players.

Brother and sister Piers and Hannah Boden, aged 15 and 13 respectively, are national champions in the sport, which combines table tennis, badminton, squash and tennis (in that order).

Piers and Hannah, who both attend Honley High School, have shot up the rankings, and are now officially the best players in the country for their age groups.

In racketlon, competitors play one set of first to 21 in all four sports, with the same scoring rules applied in each.

Piers is the Under 16 British Open champion, while Hannah is the Women’s English Open Amateur champion, having beaten two Swedish and two British women on her way to the title – quite a feat for a 13-year-old.

Hannah is also ranked No5 in her age group nationally at badminton and is the current Yorkshire Under 15 champion.

She is a true all-rounder, having played tennis for Yorkshire and been selected to attend the West Yorkshire netball academy – while both her and Piers play badminton for Yorkshire.

The duo were also part of WYSport’s STARS athletes sponsorship scheme for talented athletes.

The pair will be competing in the inaugural Yorkshire Open Racketlon Championships, which are being held in Batley on Sunday, March 16.

This event is likely to attract top Racketlon players from across the country, with ex-England badminton international Helen Davies already signed up for the event, but there are categories to suit all abilities and beginners are welcome.

The Racketlon World Championships are also being held in England this summer (at Guildford in Surrey) along with the County Championships later this month, during which Piers and Hannah will be representing the North of England.

Racketlon tests a player’s all-round racket skills and fitness.

It originated in Scandinavia around 20 years ago and is growing rapidly, with 2014 being a big year for the sport, both in the UK and in Yorkshire.
