THE SMileS Huddersfield Billiards and Snooker League have now extended their finals week to a fortnight, which gets under way next Tuesday at Newsome WMC.

First up is the Billiards Handicap semi-finals and final, which features Roger Singleton, Tim Moore, Peter Mortimer and Mick Patmore and which will be played down to a winner on May 4.

The following night Berry Brow Lib A team take on Meltham Con or Deighton WMC in the three-player Team Knockout.

The John Needham Plate final is on Thursday, May 6 (the semi-finals have yet to be decided), while the first week finishes with the Ladies Championship final between six-times winner Cath Lawson and Yvonne Armitage who both play at Milnsbridge Socialist Club.

Lawson, who is also League secretary, won her first Ladies title in 1993, and has recently won it for the last four years in succession.

On Monday , May 10, Jason McMahon and Lee Moseley from Lockwood Con will be aiming to de-rail Robert Read and Andy Boothroyd’s attempt to win yet another Leonard Oldham Pairs, while Matthew Peaker and Rob Armitage take centre stage on Tuesday night for the final of the Billiards Championship.

Hillhouse & Birkby’s Alex Hirst will bid to add the Snooker Handicap title to the Junior Championship on Wednesday when he takes on Broad Oak’s Chris Woodhouse, while Holme Sports and Almondbury WMC battle out for the team title on Thursday.

And the main snooker event of the year is on Friday, when Robert Read takes on his Lindley WMC teammate Lucs Landa in the final of the Open Snooker Championship, bidding to join the late Tommy Donlan with an incredible 12 title wins, and his fourth in succession. All the finals at Newsome WMC start at 7.30pm.
