TWO teams in danger of falling into the Division II relegation zone clashed in the Huddersfield Table Tennis League at Newsome School.

Newsome A team have had a topsy-turvy season and needed a good result against fellow strugglers Brooks B, and they were certainly boosted by the form of new signing Francis Cioff, who was outstanding in winning all his three singles (with his deceptive oriental pen grip style of play).

All the Brooks players found Cioff too hot to handle, while Jonathan Vaughan gave Cioff good support in their straight sets doubles win over Ryan Ackroyd and Matthew Corcoran.

Vaughan out-hit both Nathan Spencer and Corcoran to win his two remaining singles matches, while Graham Hudson chipped in to out-manoeuvre Corcoran in a thrilling all-action 3-0 win and wrap up a 7-3 victory which lifts Newsome up the table.
