BARNEY FITZPATRICK claimed a National Tour third place as Thongsbridge Tennis Club’s Mini section continue to make their mark.
Fitzpatrick and clubmate Oliver Vesely gained entry into the prestigious Under 10s National Tour, played in Sheffield.
Although Vesely was unlucky not to secure a win in the very strong field, Fitzpatrick was in superb form to secure that impressive third place.
Ellie Chawner, competing in the County Tour Under 12s in Batley, showed real promise and although young in the age group, had some great wins to take her to the final, where she narrowly missed out.
At West Bridgford, George Barton was at the top of his game in the Under 9s, where he won five out of six games to finish fifth overall, while Charlotte Margetson won four matches to finish 13th.
Margetson was also in action in Goole, where she secured two excellent wins in a matchplay event. Older sister Lucy, in the Under 10s, impressively won all her three matches.
In the older age groups, Holly Horsfall (Under 16) got off to a slow start in the Northern Regional Tour event in Batley.
But having lost her first match, she went on to win the consolation draw. Andrew Atkinson, playing the equivalent boys’ event in Leeds, made quarter-finals.
