Valley St James’ Ladies ensured they remained top of the Huddersfield and District Badminton League Division I by winning all three of their games against Holmfirth A.

The scores finished 7-2 overall, with all but one mixed doubles game finishing in straight sets.

The trio of Helen Calverley, Sam Jessop and Kim Stothard won their games in comfortable fashion to give Valley St James their fourth win out of four matches.

Holmfirth A managed to win one in the Men’s and another game in the Mixed Doubles.

There was success, too, for Kirkburton A’s Ladies as they helped their team to a 6-3 win over St Cuthberts A.

Lesley Radley, Anne Bricklebank and Jenny Oldroyd won all their Ladies matches to give Kirkburton their second win from two games. The first was a 9-0.

Mixed – Goodridge & Calverley beat Sandiford & Lisa Pearson 21-11 21-11, Field & Jessop beat Ramsden & Pickett 21-15 21-13, Bricklebank & Stothard lost to Mick Pearson & Clarkson 21-13 14-21 16-21.

Ladies – Lesley Radley & Anne Bricklebank beat Kathryn Taylorson & Helen Pearman 15-21 21-11 21-13, Radley & Jenny Oldroyd beat Taylorson & Marion Lilley 21-8 21-8, Bricklebank & Oldroyd beat Pearman & Lilley 21-8 21-9.

Mixed – Soor & Radley lost to Islam & Taylorson, White & Oldroyd beat Martinek & Lilley 21-13 21-16, Sykes & Bricklebank beat Cooper & Pearman 23-25 21-9 21-17.

The Veterans are staging a handicapped mixed doubles tournament on Friday, November 29. The event is open to Veterans aged 40 or over and will take place at Newsome High School, Castle Avenue.

All players should arrive by 6.30pm for a prompt 7pm start.

Section A will be for divisions I to III while Section B will be for players in divisions IV to VI.
