THE quarter-final ties in Huddersfield Table Tennis League knockout competitions produced a narrow win for the holders.

In the Concorde Trophy the closest outcome was between holders Wilshaw B and Kingsmith G.

Wilshaw squeezed home by just 12 points and they will now face Kingsmith E, who beat Scissett WMC B by a surprising margin of 49 points.

The other semi-final will be an all-Deighton affair as favourites Deighton B eased past Kingsmith D by 62 points, while surprisingly Deighton’s C team beat their A team.

In the CSD Logistics Cup, the all-Marsh tie proved very close as the E team won by a 5 point advantage over their C team – they will now entertain Scissett WMC B who beat Deighton C.

Kingsmith F did well to beat their clubmates Kingsmith 200 by 32 points but their “ reward” is a tough encounter against Deighton B, the current holders who became the only side to reach the semi-finals of both competitions when they comfortably beat their D team.

In the basement of the second division it is really tight.

The relegation issue will certainly not be determined until the final round of matches, but currently only 10 points separate fifth from bottom Brooks C and Kingsmith PW at the bottom sandwiched between Shelley,Deighton C and Golcar Liberal A.

Next week’s fixtures pair four of the relegation “contestants” when Kingsmith PW entertain Golcar and Deighton travel to Shelley.

Brooks, having played two more games than Kingsmith PW and one more than the others, look decidedly vulnerable but have marginally less testing fixtures in the run in.

Woodfield Park A have almost certainly clinched the first division title by thrashing nearest rivals Deighton B.

The scoreline of 9-1 does not do justice to a match of high quality – full report next week.
