TWO Huddersfield amateur rugby league teams who have had successful Pennine League seasons will be hoping to sign off their Cup campaigns in style tonight.

Lindley Swifts and Newsome Panthers are preparing to do battle in the final of the Huddersfield ARLA’s James Joseph Conlan Memorial Trophy at Emley Moor’s Welfare Ground tonight (7.00).

The Swifts go into what used to be called the Supplementary Cup final having been crowned the Pennine League Division III champions, while the Panthers are on the verge of taking the Division VI title.

In a straight contest, Lindley would be red-hot favourites to win tonight’s eagerly-awaited final showdown.

But with this competition being handicapped and Newsome boasting a 30-point start, the outcome is almost impossible predict.

“We’re hoping this handicap makes all the difference in the world,” said Newsome official Bob Linford.

“We know it’s going to be a very tough game, because the Swifts have had a great season, and we’re delighted for them.

“But our second team has also had a lot to celebrate this season and we hope that continues tonight.

“Whatever happens, I think it’ll be a cracking game.”

Tonight’s referee is Sam Ansell, the touchjudges are Ian Boyles and Les Schofield and the fourth official is Chris Kendall.

Ground admission is £2 adults, while juniors get in free.

Newsome: Lander, Barlow, Morris, Corion, M Robinson, N Robinson, McKinnie, Dickinson, Andrade, Kenchington, Jones, Oldfield, L Carter, G Carter, Brewster, Davies, P Nicholson, A Nicholson, Andrew Boothroyd, Alan Boothroyd, Max Boothroyd, Taylor, Brick, Eastwood, Smith, Whitworth, Beeby, Waterson.

There’s also a Huddersfield derby in the Pennine League tomorrow when Division I champions Slaithwaite Saracens host Emley Moor.

Others fixtures are: Brighouse v Newsome (Div II), Meltham v Wibsey (Div V), St Joseph’s A v Burley (Div VI).

Also tomorrow, Huddersfield Underbank Rangers play their second Conference National fixture of the season at Featherstone Lions.

Last year’s Grand Finalists opened their 2010 campaign with a hugely disappointing 54-20 home defeat at the hands of Warrington Wizards.

And they will be desperate to bounce back against a Lions side who opened their season with a 38-12 triumph at Carlisle Centurions.

But with several of Bank’s main men still involved with their winter teams, coach Richard Knight’s side are bracing them for a big challenge.

The Huddersfield ARLA junior finals day takes place at The Cross, Underbank, on Sunday.

There is no parking at the ground. Parking is instead at Dickinson’s Farm, with a free shuttle bus.

Admission is £2 adults, juniors free.

Final timetable: 10.15am Moldgreen Under 12s v Newsome, 11.15 Newsome Under 13s v Underbank, 12.15pm Meltham Under 14s v Slaithwaite, 1.30 Newsome Under 15s v Underbank, 2.45 Newsome Under 16s v St Joseph’s Sharks.
