NEWSOME Panthers kept their Second Division promotion hopes alive with a 29-10 triumph at fourth-placed Brighouse Rangers.

The visitors have been struggling in recent weeks with injuries, but with players returning they produced a blistering start to set up the victory.

They were soon 10-0 ahead thanks to two tries from Alex Chatterton, the second after top work from Ben Good, and a Luke Broady goal.

Brighouse then hit back with a penalty of their own before Chatterton slotted over a drop goal to make it 11-4 at the break.

Only some strong Newsome defence, with Steve Farrell leading the way with 38 tackles, kept Brighouse out early in the second half.

And their defensive effort was rewarded with further tries from the man-of-the-match Tom Good, Jordan Andrade – off some good work from Ross Studholme – and then Chatterton to secure a well-deserved hat trick.
