SLAITHWAITE SARACENS are ready to host Huddersfield rivals St Joseph’s in what is now a more significant Pennine League Premier Division clash than ever.

Tomorrow’s battle between the town’s two leading clubs is always guaranteed to capture the imagination.

But with the Premier Division status of both clubs having still not been secured, the stakes couldn’t be higher.

St Joseph’s, in particular, are desperate for the win.

The Fartown-based club, who are two points adrift at the foot of the table, need at least three victories from their remaining four games to stand a realistic chance of avoiding the drop.

That process needs to get under way this weekend, and Joe’s know they will be facing a side they can beat, having secured a 14-12 home triumph over Slaithwaite in January.

But with Saracens keen to gain revenge for that reverse, the visitors will be bracing themselves for a very strong challenge.

As usual, it has all the makings of a classic.

At the same time, Newsome Panthers will be looking to win their game for a totally different reason.

The fourth-placed side still have an outside chance of gaining promotion from Division I up to the Championship Division, and those hopes will remain well and truly alive if they can secure a home win over second-placed Moorends Thorne Marauders.

Also in action tomorrow are Slaithwaite A at home to New Earswick All Blacks A in Division IV and Division VII side Underbank Rangers A who host Greetland All Rounders A.
