UNDERBANK coach Richard Knight is confident of making it two Conference National wins out of two tomorrow, despite having to field a weakened side.

Almost half of the first-choice Rangers line-up are unavailable this weekend because of their winter RL commitments with Slaithwaite and Halifax Irish.

But Knight remains in no doubt that his side have more than enough to beat Carlisle at The Cross (2.30).

“Everyone who’ll feature this weekend is training exceptionally well, and if they take this into the game I know we’ll win,” he predicted. “We’re ready to play.”

Meanwhile, in the Pennine League, Slaithwaite Saracens will wrap up the Second Division title if they can win at Bank Top Harriers after moving to the top of the table with their 72-4 win at Boothtown Terriers.

The new leaders scored 36 points in each half, four tries from Richard Flooks, a hat trick from Darren Hawkyard and further scores from Lee Hurd, Chris Lodge, Simon Burkenshaw, Joe Worthington, Matt Lodge, Luke Karolczak and Nathan Shaw.

Newsome Panthers are also in action and face a home test against Victoria Rangers, with a top three finish now so close.

In Division V, Meltham All Blacks complete their League programme at home to Elland A, while in Division VI, St Joseph’s travel to Guiseley Rangers.

And in Division VII, Emley Moor A are at Greetland A and Underbank A visit King Cross.

Slaithwaite are to field a club in the newly-formed RFL Merit League summer competition.

To play under the name of the Junior Saracens, the team is aimed specifically at Under 21 players or those who have fairly limited playing experience.

The Merit League is being made up primarily of new teams and the competition gets under way on Saturday, May 16.

Training takes place at Slaithwaite Spa, starting next Wednesday (sessions will also be held every Thursday), and for more information contact Mick Dyson on 07739 707865.
