FRUSTRATED Underbank Rangers coach Richard Knight is calling for a major re-think of the rugby league calendar after his club was forced to postpone a second RL Conference National clash.

This weekend’s scheduled fixture at Featherstone Lions has been called off because of the number of Underbank players who are involved in key clashes with their winter teams.

That comes just two weeks after Rangers’ second fixture of the season against Gateshead Thunder was postponed as they were struggling to raise a side because of various winter commitment.

And Knight believes the time has come to consider changes to the way the game is run.

“Every year we have opening games in the Conference programme called off because of the overlap between the winter and summer seasons,” he said.

“And I just can’t see how this will change if we don’t re-organise the whole calendar.

“So I believe the time has come to consider the possibility of all games at all levels being played in summer.”
