Brighouse Ladies’ third rugby league game of the season produced a second home success of the season with a hard-fought 10-6 triumph over a strong York team.

The home side took the lead with Bethany Holt crashing over after 15 minutes before the visitors replied to make it 4-4 at the break.

The game looked to be slipping out of Brighouse’s grasp when York nudged two points ahead with a penalty with 10 minutes remaining.

But in a clash that was a credit to the Ladies game, the final say went to Brighouse’s Anna Simpson, who took a lovely short pass to score just to the right of the posts and Emma Proctor converted to seal the contest.

York tried hard to salvage the points in the final minutes, but were met by a rock-solid home defence in which player of the match Debbie Smith led the way.
