I HAD hoped to be able to relay some amusing tales this week on the back of our first victory of the season last Sunday.

But I'm afraid we're not doing humour this week.

To be honest, none of us viewed the defeat against Hull KR as a laughing matter.

Instead we viewed it with deep disappointment, and that's been reflected in the way we've been working this week.

Rather than sharing the odd joke or two, it's been a case of getting our heads down and doing everything within our power to right the wrongs of that Rovers' reverse.

Obviously, the chief 'wrong' was our inability to finish off our numerous chances.

Three times we were held up over the line, and three times we were taken into touch just short of the line.

On top of that, we shifted away from the gameplan and kept forcing the pass, digging ourselves into a bigger and bigger hole.

At the end of the day, we honestly felt we were our own worst enemy.

So we do at least know exactly where we went wrong, and it certainly wasn't down to a lack of effort.

I only have an issue with my teammates if they look to have given up.

And there was no sign of that against Hull KR.

In fact, I would argue that what we witnessed was the opposite.

I think it would be a fair shout to say we were guilty of trying too hard, and that's why we came up with some of the forced plays we did.

Let's just hope that between now and next Sunday when we've played Leeds we can put Hull KR behind us.

If that's the case, then we'll have something to smile about once again.

Finally, I hope the fans turn out in force for Paul Reilly's final testimonial event at the St Patrick's Centre tomorrow night.

Paul, pictured left, has been a fantastic servant to this club, and he definitely deserves all the support he can get.

Hopefully, that will be reflected this weekend.
