HALIFAX RLFC skipper Scott Murrell has closed the door on a potential return to the Super League by signing a new two-year deal at The Shay.

The 27-year-old joined head coach Karl Harrison’s outfit last autumn after seven seasons with Hull KR and has quickly established himself as one of the Championship side’s top players.

And despite reported interest from Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, Murrell (pictured right) has instead elected to stay with their Yorkshire rivals Halifax.

Harrison said: “It’s happened pretty quickly, but it’s quite a coup for us.

“There has been some interest from other clubs for next year, which Scott has had to consider.

“We certainly couldn’t compete with the money on offer at that level, but what we could offer was the security of a multi-year deal on his existing terms.

“Scott’s had a big influence at the club since he arrived, both on and off the field, and this is a huge commitment for him and the club.

“We can plan for the future now and build a team around Scott.”

Halifax are away to Hunslet Hawks on Sunday and could go back to the top of the Kingstone Press Championship if results go their way.
