HALIFAX RLFC forward Iain Morrison could be set to make his return to action in Friday night’s all-Championship Challenge Cup clash against Sheffield Eagles.

The fifth round tie, which kicks off at 8pm at the Don Valley Stadium, presents Morrison, the former Hull KR, London and Widnes player who has been sidelined for 12 months after undergoing surgery on a serious knee injury, with his first opportunity to take the field.

Halifax head coach Karl Harrison said: “He has been training, so maybe it is time to give him a go.

“It has been a long road back and he has worked very hard to get to this point.”

Halifax go into the clash with their Kingstone Press Championship rivals with stand-off Scott Murrell having been named player of the month for April.

But Northern Rail Cup holders Halifax and last year’s Grand Final winners Sheffield know that it is going to be a tough battle to see who gets to carry the Championship banner into the last eight.

“It is a mouth-watering cup-tie where both sides are capable of winning and going through to the quarter-finals,” said Eagles coach Mark Aston.

“Karl has got his team firing this season, and even though they had a bit of a hiccup at Featherstone, I am sure they will be strong again.

“This is a great tie for both of us and it means that one of us will be in the last eight – and that is great for the Championship.”
