HALIFAX RL bowed out at the semi-final stage of the Kingstone Press Championship play-offs as they were beaten 29-10 at The Shay by reigning Grand Final winners Sheffield Eagles.

Having already seen off the Eagles in the qualification semi-final at the Don Valley Stadium Halifax started high on confidence but reached the interval trailing.

A try from Ryan Fieldhouse and a Steve Tyrer goal lifted Halifax, but the 2012 competition winners hit back with touchdowns from Pat Walker, Quentin Laulu-Togagae and Misi Taulapapa, plus two Dominic Brambani goals, to lead 16-6 at the interval.

However, Halifax edged themselves back into the contest with a Tyrer try reducing the deficit at the start of the second half.

However, the holders were not about to let their grip slip on their crown and a Scott Turner try and Brambani goal eased them two scores ahead and a Brambani drop goal gave the Eagles a firm hold on victory.

A late Brambani penalty only served to rub salt into Halifax’s wounds.
