Huddersfield St Joseph’s Ladies will be part of the Women’s Amateur Rugby League Association’s (WARLA) newly-formed winter league.

The team moved from Slaithwaite to St Joseph’s at Fartown last year to be more centrally-located and attract new players.

The new league contains two divisions. Division I will be for well-established teams and Division II for development teams, including St Joseph’s who are keen to develop young players and bring new players into ladies rugby league.

League fixtures are planned to begin on Sunday, October 25, with the St Joseph’s squad building up nicely for that day.

St Joseph’s chairperson Mark Wells said: “It’s great to have the Ladies playing at Fartown, it’s a natural extension of the girls junior rugby league programme we have been delivering for a number of years.

“St Joseph’s is a vibrant family club where everyone is welcome. With the ladies joining this new league, we now have teams from mixed mini rugby, through junior rugby for boys and girls, and up to open age teams for men and women playing from the famous old ground.”

The ladies team will be supported by Vinny and Julie at the Railway Inn on Bradford Road.

New players require no previous experience of playing rugby league, with ladies aged 16 and over welcome to come and have a go.

Training takes place every Wednesday from 6.30pm at the Fartown ground off Spaines Road, and any new players can contact Lisa Eastwood on 07718127277 for further details or visit the ladies section on the club website, www.stjosephsarlfc.co.uk .
