UNDER-STRENGTH St Joseph’s Sharks Under 17s pulled out all the stops to secure a superb 30-28 Yorkshire Combination Youth triumph at Methley.

The visitors travelled with just 12 players and fell behind to a try after two.

But they then showed all their character, grit and determination to secure a victory against the odds.

The Sharks fought back with a Liam Slater try before top defence from Gary Johnson and Jordan Cogan kept their hosts at bay.

Throughout the game Frazer Morris was an attacking thorn in the Methley side and he was rewarded with the fourth try of the match, converted by Jakob Garside.

Parmvir Singh scored the closing try and all the boys’ efforts had paid off when the final whistle blew and the result was a narrow two-point triumph.

The Sharks Under 12 girls faced newly-formed side Harehills in a RL festival at Castleford.

It proved an even contest throughout, with both sides going over the white wash.

There were some great performances especially from two of the new girls, Natalie and Sophie, who really do run the ball in well and were not afraid to get their bodies on the line to tackle.

Rachel, one of the more experienced players, also helped with her running and encouragement throughout.

Long-range tries came from Patsy, who was all over the field with her tackling, but Olivia played out of her skin with her tackling, and she also weighed in with five top-quality tries.

For any girls who would like to play rugby league, come down to Fartown on a Wednesday or Thursday from 6.30-7.30pm.

The club are also holding a girls festival next Saturday (November 24), with a 10.30pm kick-off for Under 12s, 14s and 16s teams.
