ST JOSEPH’S Sharks Under 12 Girls players Sophie Owen, Natalie Machon and Olivia Wood, had an international bonus at the Castleford Festival.

The Joe’s trio were among a clutch of young players to be coached by England player Lindsey Anfield.

The England Ladies full-back took the girls through warm-ups and ball skills, before ending with a game.

Sharks Under 14 Girls also went to the Castleford Festival and teamed up with Stanningley to take on Castleford in the first match of the day.

As good as the combined team were, they could not get the better of a well-drilled Castleford side who won 5-1.

In their second match the girls joined up with Queensbury to face the same opposition, and enjoyed a better match but were beaten 3-1.

The Sharks Under 16 Girls travelled to the Stanningley Festival which was played under the floodlights.

In the first game they teamed up with hosts Stanningley and took on a strong Castleford team.

The Sharks put in a some good tackles, but Castleford eventually won 4-1.

Joe's managed to score a good try when good Jenny Doughty took a basketball style off-load from prop Jordanne Newsholme and went over the line.

The second match saw the team take on a combined Queensbury and Farnley side and they scored a 3-1 win.

Lucy Eastwood, Emily Wilson, Amy Plowman and Newsholme put the Huddersfield side took control.

There was also good work from Hannah Rynham, Beth Swift, Lucy Wood and Anna Bedford.

Next up for all the girls is a trip to Bradford side Queensbury to play in their festival today.
