MAGNIFICENT Moldgreen have moved to the top of Division I of the Pennine League.

Coach Tim Jones' side underlined their title credentials with a superb 22-0 triumph over previous leaders Crigglestone All Blacks.

The contest had the potential to be Moldgreen's toughest test of the year.

But as soon as Dean Bradshaw gave his side the lead with a superbly-crafted score, there was only going to be one winner as the hosts made it sevens wins from eight starts.

Bradshaw's try proved the only score of a gripping first half, with Moldgreen having to defend their line strongly to keep their Wakefield opponents at bay.

However, in the second half, it was all Moldgreen.

Thornton set the ball rolling with a 50th-minute penalty before the Huddersfield side finished strongly with three tries.

Bradshaw was the first to strike, doubling his tally with another well-worked move in which Matt Johnson was to the fore. Then in the last 10 minutes Rob Joyce and Mick Diskin raced over for Thornton to convert and seal an outstanding success in which man-of-the-match prop Craig Denby led a magnificent team effort.

Unfortunately, there was defeat for fellow Huddersfield First Division side St Joseph's who were well beaten 36-14 at Birkenshaw.

It was always going to be a tough test for the Fartown-based side, with their hosts having lost just once this season.

And it was a far from ideal result as St Joseph's prepare for Saturday's big Yorkshire Cup quarter-final tie at East Hull Dragons.
