MOLDGREEN paid the price for making too many errors as they fell to a 38-30 First Division defeat at Birkenshaw.

The visitors opened strongly with Colin Denby feeding Sean James for the opening try.

But by half-time, the home side had opened up a 16-12 advantage, with Moldgreen adding a second try through Mathew Johnson after good work from Mick Diskin.

Birkenshaw extended their lead at the start of the second half before Howard Brooksbank crashed over to give Moldgreen renewed hope.

Unfortunately, the visitors were then guilty of producing a number of costly fumbles which paved the way for further Birkenshaw scores to take the game beyond the Huddersfield club’s reach.

However, Moldgreen showed great spirit to finish the game strongly and close the gap.

Smart play by Gillan Warrington enabled him to plunge over from acting half-back and then Craig Denby broke clear to feed brother Colin to race 70m and score under the posts.

And with Neil Thornton adding all the conversions, Moldgreen finished just eight points behind their impressive hosts, despite the fact the visitors had just 15 men at their disposal due to injury.
