Newsome Panthers Under 13 side battled hard for a 14-10 victory at Oulton Vikings.

From the kick-off Oulton handled the ball well, while in contrast Newsome Panthers were making mistakes.

As a result the Panthers had to defend well to repel some fast and clever plays from the hosts.

The Vikings were dominating and quickly went 10-0 ahead.

A try saving tackle from the Leeds side stopped Newsome from scoring before the half-time, but in the second half the Panthers started to put pressure on the Oulton playmakers and it paid off when Leighton Davis crossed over for the visitors first try of the game.

The Newsome forwards started to dominate and it was Davis again who combined with opposition man of the match and captain Joe Hughes to score for Newsome’s second try, converted by the skipper.

With the scores tied with only minutes remaining and a brilliant dummy pass from Billy Denton to Davis allowed him to barge his way through the Oulton defenders for his hat trick and give Newsome the lead for the first time in the game.

Top tackler went to Scott Moorhouse, Grafter was given to Denton and Davis was awarded parents’ player and coaches man of the Match.

Panthers Under 14 side were 30–18 winners at home to Oulton Vikings.

Newsome returned to winning ways, but it was the visitors who scored first first with an unconverted try.

Within minutes the home team went ahead after a kick from Joel Sykes deep into the visitors half was fumbled and from the ensuing scrum the ball was received by Luke Hanson who gave a well timed pass to Harry Newman to dive over – he converted his own try.

Oulton regained the lead, but on the stroke of half-time another kick from Sykes bounced perfectly for him to re-gather and score making the half time score 12-8.

Oulton pressed at the start of the second half, but Newman intercepted on his own line and ran unopposed up the field to touch down.

Then from deep in their own half and the ball passing through many hands, the ball got to Newman on halfway and he again ran in unopposed.

Despite excellent defensive work by Jordan James, Kahyam Crampton and Lucas Chappell, Oulton then managed to score two quick tries.

With five minutes remaining Oulton must have felt they were in with a chance but strong work by Zack Stainsbury, Luke Duval and William Rogers and two excellent restarts from Sykes kept Newsome on the attack.

With the last attack of the game Hanson dived over from acting half back through the sea of legs to score.

William Rogers was awarded grafter and Hanson received man of the match, opposition man of the match award went to Newman who added five conversions.

Panthers Under 8 side travelled to take on Elland side who have only lost once in two years.

Newsome started with strong driving from Harry Hinchliffe, Bradley Haywood and Cian Gleadall to finish with a try from Hayden Mitchell.

Elland responded by scoring a try of their own but great driving by Sol Kelly, Hinchliffe, Callum Townend and Andre Derrick caused all sorts of problems for the Elland defence, and powerhouse Hayden Mitchell sent defenders sideways to score a fine individual try.

Elland scored again and just before half-time William Brough used his skill to round the Elland defence to score a try in the corner.

In the second half Newsome got in front with a try from Derrick, but back came Elland and only excellent defensive from parents’ player Gleadall, top tackler Mitchell, most improved Kelly and coaches player Hinchliffe turned the tide for Joel Gardener to score another try.

Elland came back with a try but then Brough went on to score two more tries to give Newsome a well-deserved win.

Newsome Panthers Under 8B were victorious for a second week as they beat Brotherton Bulldogs at home.

Newsome dominated with Demir Acarer and William Eyre (2) breaking through for early scores, but Brotherton opened the second half with three quick tries.

Newsome regained their composure. as Eyre crossed for his hat trick and Max Fleary broke the away side’s defence for a try.

Eyre then scored the winning try with the man of the match going to Fleary.
