Newsome Panthers’ Under 13 side notched a crucial 38-10 win over Stanley Rangers at Hall Bower in the Yorkshire Junior League.

With the winners likely to finish second in the league table, a good start was needed and Newsome scored first with a try from second row Luke Hanson.

Their second try came from centre Joey Gatus, who soon added his second after taking his own kick to go over.

Stanley managed their only score of the half soon after, but on the stroke of half-time centre Harry Newman scored.

Within a minute of the start of the second period Gatus completed his hat trick after running in from halfway.

Hanson then completed his brace after a kick from McGuire, before Stanley managed to find an opening to complete their tally.

Newsome’s last points came after Newman pinched the ball near the line to go over.

Panthers Under 12 side won 30-16 away at Lindley Swifts in Division III, but it was the home team who scored first as they pounced on the loose ball to score.

Newsome kept their heads and replied through Leighton Davis, his try being converted by Joe Hughes.

Full back Billy Haywood was next to score after some neat handling by Ben Holmes, Billy Denton and Aaron Reid, but Lindley hit back and the first half finished with the visitors leading 12-10.

Scrum half Henry Barton proved too difficult to handle for Lindley in the second half and it led to Billy Haywood scoring twice.

Hughes didn’t convert but paved the way for Davis to go over for his second try, and Alistair Wilford squeezed through to score Newsome’s final try of the game.

Newsome’s Under 8 side were away at Batley Boys and put on a determined display.

Newsome’s first try came when a quick play-the-ball allowed Ryan Kerraine-Perrin to go over the line and there was no stopping Malachai Mackenzie going over from close in to add to the score.

After half-time Newsome had good drives from Jayden Myers and Connor Emerson which led to Kirrane-Perrin adding is second try.

Batley Boys never stopped trying , but Newsome added to their score when Luckas Hussain-King went through to touch down and then Mackenzie powered over for his second try of the game.

Panthers’ Jayden Myers stole the show with a solo try going the full length of the field to score and with the match coming to a close Corey Stead burst through for his second try of the game.

Newsome’s Under 9 side were away at Featherstone Lions and the Panthers made the home side really sweat.

However, despite keeping the Lions out of the danger zone for a couple of minutes, it was the home team that got onto the score-sheet first and they added a second try through their prop forward.

Newsome didn’t let their heads drop and they came back fighting with strong drives from Jaiden Walker and James Haywood.

However, they could not break through the Lions defence and the home side added to their tally again before half-time.

The Panthers improved in the second half and went close to scoring when grafter of the day Luke Earnshaw took the ball in strongly close to the Featherstone try line and Aaron Drew went very close on the last tackle, but he was held just short.

Featherstone were now floundering and getting frustrated and Newsome were to keep the home side out for the rest of the game.

However, their only reward came near to the final whistle when Archie Roberts and then Alfie Reed were held short, but on the last tackle Drew powered over for his side’s one try of the game.
