The local bragging rights definitely went to Newsome Panthers in the Pennine League.

They faced a derby showdown at home to Emley Moor and ran out 68-6 victors in Division III West.

The win left Panthers comfortably in mid-table while Emley are second bottom.

Table-topping Mirfield Stags continued their 100 per cent start to the season with a convincing 40-10 victory over Stainland Stags in the Championship.

Mirfield crossed twice in the opening eight minutes through hooker Nathan Hadfield and scrum half Jordan Anderson – Ross Hayden added both goals.

Stainland hit back when stand-off Iliass Laachiri crossed, but further tries from forwards Luke Manning and Wayne Jowett and two more Hayden goals increased the Stags’ half-time advantage to 24-4.

Mirfield’s front-rower Ben Mather was sin-binned on 55 minutes, but it made no difference to the flow of the game and the visitors continued their domination with three second half tries.

Hayden crossed twice in a six minute spell to take his season’s tally to six and Mather, making his first appearance of the season, made up for his misdemeanour by going over for Mirfield’s final try.

Newsome Panthers (Black) v Emley Moor

Winger Will Jordan scored a late consolation try for Stainland and Callum Holroyd added the goal.

In Division I there was an impressive home win for Lindley Swifts as they notched a 20-12 victory over Sharslton Rovers and Underbank Rangers were also in winning form with a 36-24 success against Ossett Trinity Tigers.

In Division IV West Meltham All Blacks were home winners beating Wyke A 18-4, earning victory after trailing at half-time to a solitary first half try from the visitors.

They drew level through a Mikey Holmes try, and he then produced the telling pass to send Ricky Barber in at the posts.

A superb solo score from Oliver Storey secured victory with Josh Worrall, who won the ‘Mozarella’ man-of-the-match, kicking three goals out of three attempts.
