Newsome Panthers Under 12 side bagged the bragging rights as they notched a 48-6 win against Moldgreen.

Newsome made their intentions clear from the start and it took the hosts five minutes to open the scoring as props Thomas Spiliotis and Scott Moorhouse paved the way for Henry Barton to put Daniel Jessop in.

Panthers stand off Billy Denton was an influential figure and went over for Newsome’s second try, converted by captain Joe Hughes.

Hughes scored a minute later and the visitors looked stunned as man of the match Travis Corion went over twice before half-time.

The second half started with another Newsome try as Ben Holmes pounced on a fumbled ball.

Centre Leighton Davis was next to cross as he took a pass from hooker Bryn Peel – goal added by Hughes.

Forward Allan Karrasch then barged his way through for Newsome’s eighth try before the visitors managed to score a try of their own.

Newsome had the last word as full back Billy Haywood crossed and Hughes converted.

Newsome Panthers Under 7s scored a fine win against Kings Cross Park in bad weather at Hall Bower.

Kings Cross Park went ahead but Newsome hit back strongly with Archie Duncan, Joel Gardner and Braith Bower scoring tries to give them a convincing lead despite playing into the win.

Cian Gleadall, Ben McNulty and William Brough defended well, but the visitors did go in for another try.

Hayden Mitchell was hauled down just short for the hosts while Andre Derrick had several attempts to get to the try line, deserving Newsome’s most improved player award.

Kings Cross Park upped their game and scored several tries at the start of the second half, and excellent defending from Callum Townsend, Max Fleary and Luis Gardner prevented more. Further tries from William Brough, Demir Acarer and Hayden Mitchell gave the Panthers a well-deserved win in the end and coaches Mick Newton and Craig Gleadall praised both teams.

Malachi Mckenzie and Louie Creaser scored hat tricks as Newsome Under 8s beat Heworth.

Mckenzie showed pace and power to go in from halfway to open the scoring and, after Heworth levelled, Luckas Hussain-King and Connor Emerson combined and, from a sound pass, Jayden Myers put Creaser in.

He and Mckenzie went over again with Heworth hitting back each time.

A good defence kept out Heworth and some fine offloads in difficult conditions led to Creaser speeding over for his hat trick.

Connor Emerson then allowed Hussain-King to side step over for his try.

Corey Stead shone in the second half with strong drives and hard tackles and Dylan Sykes always kept Newsome going forward. Ryan Skocz and Ryan Kirrane-Perrin crossed along with Mckenzie who completed his hat trick in typical powerful style.

Newsome Under 9s went behind against Stanningley at the Bower despite Rhys Perrin, James Haywood and Jaden Dayes starting well.

Aaron Drew, Will Lockwood, Luke Earnshaw and Callum Burhouse then did well and Jaiden Walker scored a sparkling try, going past four men.

Stanningley hit back to score but, in the next move, however, captain Alfie Reed gave Newsome good field position and Earnshaw scored.

Naumaan Khan, Lockwood and Ashley Smith tackled well and Perrin was voted Grafter of the Day.

Stanningley, though, went ahead before half time and then used their size and conditions well.

Stanningley went ahead before Lockwood made a trademark run down the wing, beating three would-be tacklers to score.

But it was Stanningley who ran in three tries to take control, but Newsome finished well with a fine try from Jaden Dayes, who was voted man of the match by both coaches and the Newsome parents, and another from Earnshaw..
