SCOTT QUARMBY kicked a last-minute penalty from just inside his own half to secure a thrilling 22-20 home triumph for Meltham All Blacks over Eastmoor Dragons in Division V of the Pennine League.

The mid-table tussle looked to be heading for a draw with time ticking away.

But Quarmby held his nerve to land a superb long-range effort that will live long in the memory.

It was cruel on the Dragons, who battled hard throughout and made their intentions clear from the start by taking the lead.

But Meltham hit back with the try of the game, when Matt Worrall collected the ball near his own line, beat three defenders and outpaced everyone to score.

Meltham’s other tryscorers were Lewis Heeley, Tom Smith and Jacob Green.

There was also a thrilling game at Emley Moor, who came close to overturning a 32-point handicap in the James Joseph Conlan Memorial Trophy, eventually falling 42-36 to Slaithwaite Saracens A.
