A BRACE of tries from Perry Whiteley was not enough for Giants’ Under 20 side who slipped to a 42-8 defeat against Leeds in the Valvoline Cup.

The major talking point at the MCA was a fight which broke out, with Leeds’ Gareth Morgan given a straight red for his part in the melee on the half hour mark.

Leeds established a lead through Jamal Chisholm and then Jimmy Keinhorst tries.

However, just as the Giants were in the ascendancy tempers flared and a mass brawl, which all 26 players got caught up, ended with Jamie Cording, Joel Farrell and Ward sin-binned, and Morgan sent off.

Huddersfield took advantage of the weakened Leeds defensive side on the back of the penalty awarded to them, as Danny Price and Jonny Molloy combined to send in centre Whiteley.

The visitors hit back with pacy winger Chisholm bagging his second.

With the home side having an extra man for the duration of the second half they should have had Leeds on the back foot.

Initially that looked to be the case with Chris Cullymore, Cording and Freddy Walker all going close, but Luke Briscoe gave Leeds breathing space.

Giants hit back shortly after when Dave Orwell, Danny Price and Ben Whitehead combined to send in Whiteley for his second.

Any hopes of a Giants comeback were ended with Keinhorst coming up with another solo effort.

Leeds showed their superiority with Alex Foster (2) and Syron scoring.
