FORMER Huddersfield Giants Super League prop Jason Southwell stormed over for four tries as Emley Moor maintained top spot in Division II with a 46-28 triumph at Calder Valley.

It was the eighth win from 10 starts for coach Pete Southwell’s side, who remain two points clear at the top of second-placed Huddersfield rivals Newsome Panthers.

But if Emley can keep up their current level of form, they have to be favourites to claim the title.

However, opponents Calder Valley didn’t make it easy for their visitors, and midway through the first half the sides were locked at 10-10.

And at one stage in the second period, Moor were just 26-22 ahead before a late Emley surge sealed the outcome.

The home side led 20-10 at the break, thanks to tries from Southwell, right, Glen Holdsworth, Chris Shepherd and Dave Pawson and two Karl Adamski goals.

Then in the second half, Southwell grabbed three more tries, with Adamski crossing for another and adding two more goals, and James Parmentor rounded things off by intercepting a Calder Valley pass and racing in from 60m for a try, goaled by Andy Tillotson, to complete the victory.
