ST JOSEPH'S A are up to third in the Pennine League Division VI after a fine 50-6 victory at home to Lancashire side Whitworth Spartans.

The home side dominated from start to finish, taking the lead after just two minutes with a try from Dan James.

He added a second four minutes later and, when Graham Hyland powered over from close range, the game had already slipped beyond the visitors' grasp.

Neil Barrett and James shared the kicking duties and were kept busy all afternoon.

By half-time, the lead was up to 32-0 following further tries from James - who finished with four in the first half - and Shaun Mitchell, and the Fartown side were away.

The Lancastrians showed more heart after the interval to score their six points.

But they still had little answer to a young, confident St Joseph's second string.

Hyland grabbed his second after good work from Mick Folan and Barrett, while Mitchell hacked a loose ball 60m out and raced through to touch down in style.
