Huddersfield’s Lucy Eastwood has made a winning start to a new phase in her rugby life – playing with the England Students team.

Having started playing at St Joseph’s Fartown Rugby Ground at Under 12 level, she’s gone from strength to strength and made a good start to her first international game for the England University and College team against the Great Britain Teachers team .

Playing at half-back Eastwood created two tries and scored one in the Students’ victory.

Eastwood has worked her way through the county sides and first played for Yorkshire at Under 14 and Under 16 levels before being selected for the Yorkshire Women’s squad.

During this time she was also picked out to be followed for the England Pathway scheme and took the opportunity to enhance her skills at special coaching days.

This has also allowed Lucy’s dad Steve to pick up new drills and coaching methods to use at St Joseph’s with the current Under 13 and Under 15 Girls teams.

Lucy is currently playing at Normanton Knights Ladies during the summer season but is hoping to return to Fartown to play for Huddersfield Ladies during the winter.

Any girls wanting to take up the sport are welcome to attend training at the Fartown Rugby Ground on Spaines Road on Wednesday evenings from 6.30 – for more information please call Steve Eastwood on 07723 721882.

St Joseph’s open age team are starting training for the upcoming Pennine League season under new coach Lee St Hilaire on Thursday, July 2, from 7pm at Fartown rugby ground. Players new and old are welcome to come down and get stuck in.

The club are also looking for more players for their Under 8 and 10 teams.
