New Halifax RL coach Richard Marshall expects to have a new-look plan in place before his side face their pre-season tests against Super League opposition.

Marshall’s men will face his former club Huddersfield Giants at The Shay on Sunday, January 25, and he also has a match against Castleford Tigers pencilled in.

It is a busy spell for Marshall as the former Warrington Wolves assistant coach is also preparing the England Academy side for their autumn series Australian Schoolboys.

However, he is working towards having Fax up and running for the hit-outs in the New Year as they prepare for next season’s Kingstone Press Championship season.

“I don’t know if whether it is different to what they did last year or not,” said Marshall.

“But there are things I want them to practice and get better at.

“A lot revolves around what players do off the ball and how they prepare for the next play, rather than watching the man carrying the ball.

“I want the players to contribute too. They know what works in this division and it is all about involving them in the decision-making process.”

However, Marshall knows there is plenty of work to do and added: “I think in terms of skills and fitness we are miles away from where we need to be.

“But I think Miles Greenwood has shown up well and Scott Murrell has got them organised – so there are some good signs.”
