In 2014, Huddersfield RLFC has a lot to celebrate.

It’s the club’s 150th anniversary, the centenary of the club’s ‘Team Of All Talents’ – one of only three teams to win all four available trophies in one season (1914-15) – and Albert Rosenfeld’s all-time record of 80 tries in a season (1913-14).

And, in addition, it’s the centenary of the start of the First World War.

Great strides have been made by the small band of dedicated people who are on the organising committee of the Heritage Project, which is making sure all these events are being remembered.

By now you will all know about the exhibition at the Tolson Museum. It is receiving rave reviews, but have you seen it for yourself yet?

The Collectors Cards (Huddersfield Greats and Fartown Giants) are similarly generating positive feedback. At £5 per set they are a must for every Giants and Fartown fan.

The website contains an enormous amount of information, and is well worth a browse – should you have the odd day or two to spare!

Reminiscent boxes suitable for people with dementia are now available.

The ‘St John’s Stone’ now has pride of place at the John Smith’s Stadium.

And the Heritage Shirt – well, need one say more?

But there is more, much more to come!

Currently in production are as follows:

The ‘Wagstaff Trail’ around Holmfirth, taking in some of the memorable places associated with the Prince Of Centres.

Huddersfield in World War 1 trail.

A book about the history of the club, all of which is previously unpublished information.

A book about Huddersfield and World War 1.

Art and writing competitions for schools and their pupils are now under way.

Plus a surprise or two still in the early planning stage.

And what of HGSA?

Well, our first meeting in 2014 will be next Tuesday (January 7), when Sky Sports’ Angela Powers will be our guest.

On January 16, he’s come all the way from Australia to star in ‘An Evening With Greg Austin’.

Then on January 23 and following on from last year’s success, there’s going to be a Fans Forum in the John Smith’s Stadium Revell Ward Suite.

Radio Leeds commentator Craig Mosedale will be our MC and the Examiner’s Chris Roberts has agreed to field your press questions.

For the sake of suspense, the three panelists from the Giants will be announced next week.

The event is free for members, season-ticket holders and accompanied youngsters. Otherwise, it’s £1.

On January 31, it’s the pre-season meal. Meet 5.30ish in the Sportsman (just past the railway bridge on St John’s Road) or meet in Bradley’s on Fitzwilliam Street at 7.00ish. The cost for a two-course meal and glass of wine is £14.50. Deposits or full payment for this event are now required.

And on February 4, the guest speaker is the BBC’s Tanya Arnold.
